94 Points - Allen Meadow - Vinous Media: " Here too there is a touch of reduction that is again just enough to shave the top notes off the otherwise pure and elegant nose so I would also suggest decanting this if you're tempted to try a bottle young. There is very good phenolic maturity to the supporting and well-integrated structure that shapes the sleekly muscular medium weight plus flavors that exude a fine minerality on the seductively textured finish. This robust effort is clearly built for the very long haul and other than perhaps trying a bottle young just to understand what you have, this beauty is one to bury in the cellar and forget for a very long time."
93+ Points - Antonio Galloni - Vinous Media: "Healthy dark red. Still a hint of leesy reduction to the aromas of dark raspberry and smoke. Powerful and penetrating but youthfully tight, with remarkably sweet dark fruit flavors and a texture of liquid velvet perfectly countered by excellent harmonious acidity. Boasts terrific thrust but for all its power, depth and sucrosité this premier cru seems less massive than the Frémiet. The tannins are firm but suave."
91 Points - Neal Martin - The Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a generous bouquet of vibrant strawberry and cranberry fruit inter-layered with fine mineralite. The palate is medium-bodied with similar tannins to the Taillepiers, i.e. silky and almost Vosne-like, but here there is a touch more density towards the rounded finish."
